CITL Grand Opening

June 6th 2011

ENERGOINSTAL S.A. made an innovation on a global scale. In its newly created Centre of Innovative Laser Technologies (CITL) in Poręba, Zawiercie – Śląskie, as the first and only in the world uses modern techniques of laser welding for the production of power boilers and their parts.

June 6th 2011, ENERGOINSTAL SA, Poręba Ceremonial Opening of Innovative Laser Technologies ENERGOINSTAL specializes in the manufacture and installation of state-of-the-art boilers and equipment for industrial and professional energy sector. Launched CITL, offering customized solutions for industry, based on latest laser technologies. It is the only facility of its kind in Europe. The value of this investment amounts to PLN 32 mio., with over PLN 10 mio. derived from EU funds under the Operational Programme "Innowacyjna Gospodarka" (Innovative Economy).

CITL is the latest and unique project in the world.The offer includes:

  • line for welding sheet pile panels with laser sources, power: 2x12kW;
  • line for welding finned tubes with laser source, power: 8 kW;
  • robot position for cutting and hybrid welding with 6x3x2m workspace;
  • modern accredited laboratory providing a range of specialised research.

The production held at CITL is based on own technology of ENERGOINSTAL SA, completing the 3- years period of research – development. Studies on similar solutions are currently being performed by other world's leading manufacturers, though ENERGOINSTAL was the first to carry out the industrial tests, and submitted its solutions to patent protection (6 applications submitted between 2007 / 2008). By implementing innovative and world`s first technology of finned tubes production with the use of the latest generation of high power lasers, two contrary features of the product and the process have been combined. As a result, very high product quality was obtained while increasing the efficiency of the process by 600%. Continuous / serrated finned tubes, welded along the entire length are used for the production of modern boilers, increasing their efficiency and thereby reducing their size and weight. Production of pipes takes place with use of two modern fully automated lines with a total length of 150 m, equipped with an automatic line for corrosion protection and tubes packaging after welding.

The combination of ultra modern high-power lasers with the traditional MAG method resulted in the world's first implementation of an innovative technology for the production of sheet pile panels. Process efficiency was increased by 400%, a high quality product was obtained meeting all regulatory requirements and standards, both of European and world markets. The result of laser technology application is the introduction of the innovative group of power equipment into the market, of which more than 90% are produced by laser technology. Obtaining the complete penetration of the joint in the sheet pile panels which is only possible by using laser techniques, ensures the correct flow of heat in parts of boilers and directly affects the efficiency of the entire boiler.

In the professional energy sector, an increase of every 1% efficiency of the equipment stands for an increase of energy production calculated in MW from the same amount of fuel burned, which is of great economic and ecological importance. The best example is the world's first power boiler welded with laser technology for ECO OPOLE.

Centre of Innovative Laser Technologies stands for modern, fully automated and robotized lines including cutting-edge accredited laboratory for NDT and destructive testing, which allows quick access to research results in scope of developing new technologies.
